Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children or young adults. It has been diagnosed in older people, but that is a rare ocurrrence. Oftenthe symptoms of Tipe1 diabetes will come on suddenly and e very intense. The symptoms of Type 1 diabetes are:

. Abdominal pain

. Fatigue

. Increased thirst

. Increased urination

. Nausea

. Vomiting

. Weight loss despite increased appetite

Sometimes hospitalization is required in order to diagnoseType 1 diabetes and the to regulate insulin injections.

There an old saying, "the est defese is a good offense"; ad that is certaily true when you have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Get the facts - the real facts, and not just something that somebody heard. You will be better equipped to handle your disease if you are armed with information. Diabetes is a life- changing diagnosis, ut it is not a fatal diagnosis. People who have Type 1 diabetes live long, healthy, and productive lives.

The life changes that you ca expect are frequent testing of your blood (usually about six times each day). Your diet is going to have to change as well. You will need to be aware of how many carbohydrates you are consuming at each an every meal. Sacks must be either regulated or eliminated. A low-carb diet will likely be recommended. There was a time when calories consumed were the main factor in determining the need for insulin, but recently it's been determined that grams of carbs are a more reliable factor.

Your exercise will also need to e regulated. Exercise burns energy and makes demands on the body for fuel (carbs). The exercise/diet/insulin ratio is sometimes difficult to establish and it does vary but you can controll it.

The cause of diabetes

What cause diabetes? There is no single cause of diabetes, either. There's an abundance of theories, though.

Type 1 diabetes is believed to be caused by genetics poor diet (malnutrition) and enviroment (virus affectin pancreas). If there's a history of Type 1 diabetes in a family, the risk factor  is far greater than if there is no family history of Type 1 diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not secrete insulin.
Type 2 diabetes is also believed to be affected by genetics, buy lifestyle is also a contributing factor. Those who are most often diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes are over 40 years old, obese, and sedentary. In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas secretes insulin, but the body doesn't use the insuline correctly.

Heredity seems to e the most significant factor for the level of risk of diabetes. Because some genes pass from one generation to another, diabetes can be an inherited disease.

It's important for all of us to eat a good and well balanced diet. Americans especially eat a very unhealthy diet that is high in calories, processed sugars, and food preservatives. A diet that consists of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats is a healthy diet. There is no recognized research that tells us that poor nutrition actually causes diabetes, but there is recognized reserarch that tells us that a poor diet can cause many human problems.

Age  is factor in Type 2 diabetes. Most of those diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are over 40; ut that doesn't mean that if you are over 40, there's nothing you can do to prevent type 2 diabetes. A good diet, frequent exercise, and weight control can lower you chances of developing type 2 diabetes significantly.
